ST. THERESITA’S ACADEMY (SILAY CITY, PHILIPPINES) CELEBRATING 83rd ACADEMY DAYS (September 30-October 3, 2016)

St. Theresita’s Academy (STA) is the oldest school owned by the Siervas de San Jose in the Philippines, located in Silay City, Negros Occidental. As a Catholic Center of Education, it “provides transformative Catholic basic education (K-12) characterized by academic excellence and imbued with Gospel values geared towards producing women servant leaders in the 21st century.”(STA Vision). From September 30, 2016 to October 3, 2016, STA celebrated its 83rd Academy Days, everybody’s most awaited annual event.

The first highlight of the Academy Days 2016 was the Eucharistic Celebration held last September 30, 2016, in commemoration of the school patroness St. Therese of the Child Jesus. The mass presider was Fr. Hendrick. A video clip on the life of St. Therese was shown as part of the introduction which was followed by the floral offering to honor St. Therese.

OFFERTORY PROCESSION-OFFERINGS INTENDED FOR THE OUTREACH PROJECTS

After the Mass, Sr. Natividad Maravilla (STA School Directress) officially announced the opening of the program. Theresians were very much enthusiastic and ready to spend during the rest of their days their chits for food and booth games like Shooting Booth (prepared by the Grade 7) where they try to shoot a ball and win prizes whenever they are able to really shoot the ball; Dedication Booth (prepared by the Grade 8) where they request for their favored songs and send their inspiring messages to their fellow Theresians; Chain Booth (prepared by the Grade 9) where some Theresians list their names in the booth just to be chained with their crushes just for laughs; and the scary Horror Room entitled “Sa Batibot” (prepared by the Grade 10).

Another highlight was the Motorcade Parade held last October 1, 2016 and participated by administrators, faculty and staff, students, parents and STA Alumni. Since this year’s Alumni Homecoming Theme is black and white, the host of the Alumni Homecoming filled their vehicle with black and white balloons. The parade started from the school passing through the Silay Public Plaza straight to the road in Brgy. Mambulac and then back to school.

The heat of the sun triggers the enthusiasm in the hearts of Theresians as they enter the school vicinity after the parade. As the participants of the motorcade entered the STA gate, they were greeted and cheered by the STA Band Group.

The Theresians enjoyed the BINGO Game during lunchtime and of course the afternoon raffle draw where Alyssa and April who are both Gr. 11 students won the consolation prize of Php 500.00 and the 2nd  prize of  Php 3,000 respectively.

On the following day- October 2, the most awaited event, the Field Demonstrations, took place in the afternoon at exactly 2:00 PM. The school ground was crowded with STA family (SSJ sisters, faculty, staff, students and parents) and visitors who watched the wonderful field demonstration rendered by the students from Pre-school, Intermediate, Elementary, Junior and Senior High school. They grooved and moved with the beats as they danced the national dances from their chosen countries. During the performance, you can see the smiles in the faces of the proud parents and happiness fills the atmosphere as the audience clapped and cheered for the performers.

The last but not the least highlight of the Academy Days (October 3) was the unforgettable Variety Show rendered by the students from the different performing clubs: dance, teatro dinu-agan, instrumentalists, and the vocals. Even the parents participated in the show. The night was ended by the song and dance number performed by the teachers from elementary and high school department with the song Shake it Off.
